Intensive care / 1: 1 supply
For more than 20 years we have had extensive experience in another exciting field of activity, namely intensive care and ventilation care in the home environment.
Here we provide entire treatment teams for people with the corresponding restrictions, who provide committed and qualified care, starting with hourly care up to 24-hour full care, regardless of whether it is restrictions due to ultra-high paraplegia, respiratory diseases or degenerative or autoimmune diseases acts. Such a measure is very labor-intensive, but also poses considerable logistical problems.
One problem here is the fact that a team of qualified nurses has to be hired (and paid) for each individual affected, but the health insurance companies immediately stop paying for every care interruption (e.g. due to hospitalization), so that it is extremely difficult to calculate the care costs In cooperation with professional associations and health insurances, we try and qualified alternatives to the hospital in their own households. or to offer home stay. Care models are also possible within the framework of assisted living, which become considerably more cost-effective as a result.
The qualified nurses employed in this area are intensively prepared for their new job by our experienced colleagues and attend appropriate training courses and further education. Care in this area means working in a very sensitive environment:
On the one hand, highly qualified patient observation (especially skin, bladder, circulatory, tracheostoma observation) must be performed and safe device monitoring must be mastered, and if necessary the necessary care measures must be taken calmly and safely or further medical or rehabilitation measures must be initiated.
On the other hand, our caregivers move in the home environment of the person being cared for, in their family, and have to constantly check how much help is required for maximum independence and, on the other hand, how much personal space and privacy is necessary for them and their families. Different cultural backgrounds as well as different hygienic standards are also a constant topic that has to be dealt with sensitively and yet clearly. In addition to the “customary” nursing qualities, this requires a lot of sensitivity and willingness - e.g. B. If the ventilation fails - to get from “zero to one hundred” and quickly do the right thing at that moment. At the same time, there is the rare opportunity to enter into a longer relationship with a patient and their environment and to plan care and to carry it out with time and without pressure.
Even though we now care for a number of intensive care patients, we made a conscious decision to remain a regional provider. The main reasons for this are quality: Only in this way is comprehensive support and quality assurance really possible. We train employees and develop new tools for permanent learning. We pay particular attention to the further training of managers, i.e. team leaders. We will also train “jumpers” who can not only help out in individual teams in times of need, but who are particularly qualified and who also support newer teams with this qualification.
And finally there is close cooperation with the regional ventilation centers. In our case, these are above all the Asklepios Clinic Hamburg-Harburg, the LungenClinic Großhansdorf and the professional association accident hospital Hamburg (Boberg).
